Luxor, Egypt — In an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation, the
management of the Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) is putting the
final touches on preparations for its 15th edition, which carries
special significance this year. The edition not only celebrates major cinematic
figures but also presents a rich program of activities that reinforce the
festival’s role as a leading cultural and artistic platform fostering dialogue
between Egypt and the African continent.
During a meeting attended by members of the festival’s High Committee,
final preparations for the upcoming edition were reviewed. The festival is
scheduled to take place from March 29 to April 5, 2026.
The meeting was attended by Festival President and Founder Sayed Fouad,
Festival Director and Co-founder Azza El-Hosseiny, Honorary President
Mahmoud Hemida, producer Gaby Khoury, Dr. Ezzat Saad, MP
Hossam El-Mandouh, journalist Mohamed Hany, actress Salwa Mohamed
Ali, Dr. Amani El-Tawil, actor Mohsen Mohieddin, along with
several members of the festival’s organizing team.
Sayed Fouad opened the session by welcoming attendees and reviewing the
journey of the 15th edition, highlighting key challenges as well as the support
received from various governmental and non-governmental partners. He noted that
the Ministry of Youth and Sports is expected to support the
participation of 100 young men and women from across Egypt, enabling
them to attend screenings, engage with African cultures, and take part in
workshops—further strengthening the festival’s role as a hub for cinematic education
and youth engagement. He added that the festival is currently awaiting final
approval from the newly appointed Minister of Youth and Sports.
Director Azza El-Hosseiny presented details of the edition, including
juries and honorees. She announced that the festival is dedicated to several
influential cinematic figures, led by Youssef Chahine, under the theme:
“Youssef Chahine… An Egyptian Story.”
The edition also honors director Dawoud Abdel Sayed, critic and
screenwriter Farouk Abdel Khalek, Malian filmmaker Souleymane Cissé,
Algerian actress Biyouna, and Algerian director Mohamed
Lakhdar-Hamina.
For his part, renowned producer Gaby Khoury, Head of the Supreme
Committee, emphasized the importance of this edition, particularly as it
carries the name of Youssef Chahine. He revealed a special surprise:
the screening of a rare, previously unseen film by Chahine, expected to
attract wide interest among cinema audiences and enthusiasts.
Meanwhile, acclaimed actor Mahmoud Hemida described the upcoming
edition as “exceptional by all standards,” highlighting its value as a
unique opportunity for study, research, and learning. He reflected on Youssef
Chahine’s journey as a filmmaker who evolved alongside cinema itself and became
one of its great creators. Hemida added that similar significance can be found
in the works of Dawoud Abdel Sayed, Mohamed Lakhdar-Hamina, and Souleymane
Cissé, noting that this edition offers a rare chance to generate meaningful and
distinctive knowledge.
The Luxor African Film Festival is considered one of the most
important specialized film festivals on the continent. Since its founding, it
has worked to build cultural and artistic bridges between Egypt and African
countries through film screenings, seminars, and workshops bringing together
filmmakers from across Africa.
The 15th edition reaffirms this mission through a rich program
combining outstanding film selections and tributes to major African and Arab
cinematic figures. This year places special focus on the legacy of Youssef
Chahine as a profound creative and human model, reinforcing the festival’s role
as a platform for knowledge exchange and cultural dialogue rather than merely a
transient artistic event.
The festival is held in cooperation with the Luxor Governorate and
supported by several national institutions, including the Ministry of
Culture, Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Activation, the Cinema
Professions Syndicate, Commercial International Bank (CIB), Misr
International Films, Hadouta Company, Kemet Boutros Ghali
Foundation for Peace and Knowledge, and Orascom, reflecting strong
institutional collaboration in support of culture, cinema, and Egypt’s and
Africa’s presence on the international stage.

والترقب، تواصل إدارة مهرجان الأقصر للسينما الأفريقية وضع اللمسات الأخيرة
لانطلاق دورته الخامسة عشرة، التي تأتي هذا العام محمّلة بدلالات خاصة، سواء على
مستوى الاحتفاء برموز سينمائية كبرى، أو من خلال ما تتضمنه من فعاليات نوعية تؤكد
مكانة المهرجان كمنصة ثقافية وفنية رائدة في تعزيز الحوار بين مصر وعمقها الأفريقي.
وخلال اجتماع حضره
أعضاء اللجنة العليا للمهرجان، تمت متابعة الاستعدادات النهائية للدورة، المقرر
انطلاقها في الفترة من 29 مارس إلى 5 أبريل 2026.
حضر الاجتماع كل من
السيناريست سيد فؤاد رئيس المهرجان ومؤسسه، والمخرجة عزة الحسيني مدير المهرجان
ومؤسسته، والفنان محمود حميدة الرئيس الشرفي، والمنتج جابي خوري، والدكتور عزت
سعد، والنائب حسام المندوه، والكاتب الصحفي محمد هاني، والفنانة سلوى محمد علي،
والدكتورة أماني الطويل، والفنان محسن محيي الدين، إلى جانب عدد من أعضاء إدارة
المهرجان.
واستهل سيد فؤاد
اللقاء بالترحيب بالحضور، مستعرضًا رحلة إعداد الدورة الخامسة عشرة والتحديات التي
واجهتها، إضافة إلى الجهات الداعمة الرسمية وغير الرسمية. وأكد أن وزارة الشباب
والرياضة تدعم مشاركة 100 شاب وفتاة من مختلف محافظات مصر لحضور فعاليات المهرجان
والتعرف على الثقافات الأفريقية والمشاركة في الورش، بما يعزز دور المهرجان كمصدر
للثقافة السينمائية للشباب، مع الإشارة إلى انتظار الموافقة النهائية من وزير
الشباب والرياضة الجديد.
من جانبها، استعرضت
المخرجة عزة الحسيني تفاصيل الدورة، وأعضاء لجان التحكيم والمكرمين، مشيرة إلى أن
الدورة مهداة لعدد من رموز السينما، يتقدمهم يوسف شاهين تحت شعار
«يوسف شاهين.. حدوتة
مصرية»،
إلى جانب تكريم كل من
المخرج داود عبد السيد، والناقد والسيناريست فاروق عبد الخالق، والمخرج سليمان
سيسيه، والفنانة الجزائرية بيونة، والمخرج الجزائري محمد لخضر حمينة.
وأكد المنتج جابي
خوري، رئيس اللجنة العليا، أهمية هذه الدورة التي تحمل اسم يوسف شاهين، كاشفًا عن
مفاجأة خاصة تتمثل في عرض فيلم نادر له لم يُعرض من قبل، في سابقة ينتظر أن تحظى
باهتمام واسع من جمهور ومحبي السينما.
أما الفنان محمود
حميدة، فوصف الدورة بأنها «استثنائية بكل المقاييس»، مؤكدًا أنها تمثل فرصة نادرة
للدرس والبحث والتعلم، مشيرًا إلى تجربة يوسف شاهين كمثال لمخرج تطور مع تطور
السينما وأصبح من كبار صناعها، إلى جانب مخرجين كبار مثل داود عبد السيد ومحمد
لخضر حمينة وسليمان سيسيه، معتبرًا أن هذه الدورة تتيح إنتاج معرفة حقيقية ومختلفة.
ويُعد مهرجان الأقصر
للسينما الأفريقية واحدًا من أهم المهرجانات السينمائية المتخصصة في القارة، حيث
يسعى منذ تأسيسه إلى مد جسور التواصل الثقافي والفني بين مصر والدول الأفريقية من
خلال عروض الأفلام والندوات وورش العمل.
وتؤكد الدورة الخامسة
عشرة هذا الدور عبر برنامج حافل يجمع بين العروض المتميزة وتكريم رموز السينما
الأفريقية والعربية، مع تركيز خاص هذا العام على تجربة يوسف شاهين بوصفها نموذجًا
إبداعيًا وإنسانيًا ثريًا، بما يعزز من قيمة المهرجان كمنصة للمعرفة والتبادل الثقافي.
ويقام المهرجان
بالتعاون مع محافظة الأقصر، وبدعم ورعاية عدد من الجهات والمؤسسات الوطنية، من
بينها وزارة الثقافة، ووزارة السياحة والآثار، ووزارة الخارجية، والهيئة المصرية
العامة لتنشيط السياحة، ونقابة المهن السينمائية، والبنك التجاري الدولي، وشركة
أفلام مصر العالمية، وشركة حدوتة، ومؤسسة كيميت بطرس غالي للسلام والمعرفة، وشركة
أوراسكوم، بما يعكس تكاتفًا مؤسسيًا لدعم الثقافة وصناعة السينما وتعزيز الحضور
المصري والأفريقي على الساحة الدولية.
